A Yosemite Adventure Elopement with Editorial Portraits
Morgyn & Justin
Being in Yosemite National Park feels like stepping into a world where time slows down and the earth speaks in grand, sweeping gestures. Towering granite cliffs rise like cathedrals above the valley, their sheer faces glowing gold and pink as the sun shifts. Waterfalls tumble with a power that humbles you, their mist cool against your skin, reminding you how small you are in the presence of such vastness. There’s a sense of awe that settles over you, the kind that fills your chest and lingers long after you leave. Every trail, every overlook, every stretch of meadow feels like a sacred space.
The air is crisp & pine-scented, carrying the quiet hush of the forest. Even in moments of stillness, the park feels alive: wind whispering through sequoias, ravens circling overhead, the distant rush of the Merced River threading its way through the valley floor.
Eloping in a place like this feels resonant. It’s an experience that is both grounding and transcendent, as if you’ve touched the edge of the divine. There’s nothing quite like exchanging your vows in place like Yosemite National Park.
Morgyn & Justin’s Decision to Elope in a National Park
When imagining their wedding, what mattered most to Morgyn & Justin was creating an experience that felt completely true to them. Instead of a traditional wedding, they chose to elope in Yosemite National Park, surrounded by awe-inspiring views and the natural beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
As a traveling PA and a remote sales rep, these two live with adventure woven into their everyday lives. Every time I see a photo of them, they’re off exploring somewhere new—whether it’s tearing across the desert on four-wheelers, toasting wine in the Italian countryside, or getting lost in the winding cobblestone streets of Lisbon. For them, life is about chasing every adventure that comes their way. So when it came time to plan their wedding, a Yosemite elopement, promptly followed by a honeymoon in Hawaii, felt like the perfect extension of the life they already live.
Though only the crows may hear our whispered promises, all the trees breathe them into existence. The towering cliffs echo our words to ring true through the valley, and God’s glorious light sings a hallelujah so soft and so effervescent, that even the roots feel its glow.
An Intimate Yosemite Ceremony & Private Vows at the Chapel
Morgyn & Justin chose to exchange rings during an intimate ceremony in the shadow of El Capitan, one of Yosemite’s most iconic landmarks. While they wanted their elopement day to feel intentional and uniquely their own, Morgyn’s deep commitment to her faith inspired them to weave in sacred traditions, such as an official ceremony in Yosemite valley, followed by private vows on the steps of the historic Yosemite Chapel.
Choosing a private ceremony at Cathedral Beach allowed them to slow down, breathe it all in, and create memories that felt deeply personal. For couples dreaming of an elopement that blends intimacy with breathtaking scenery, Yosemite offers endless opportunities to craft a wedding day that feels authentically yours.
After exchanging rings and sealing their vows, they made their way to the historic Yosemite Chapel, one of the most iconic spots in the park. There, they shared private vows with one another, away from the world, in a space filled with history and reverence. The chapel’s rustic charm paired with the grandeur of Yosemite Valley made it the perfect place for such an intentional, heartfelt moment.
Considering an Elopement in Yosemite National Park?
The Yosemite Chapel is a beautiful spot for those who want both intimacy and a touch of history. Whether you choose to exchange private vows inside or simply use it as a meaningful stop on your elopement day, it adds a timeless and romantic element to your story.
A Sweet Celebration at Glacier Point
After their intimate ceremony and chapel vows, the couple made their way up to Glacier Point, one of the most breathtaking overlooks in all of Yosemite National Park. Standing at over 7,200 feet, Glacier Point offers sweeping views of Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, and the High Sierra peak. It was an unforgettable backdrop for their celebration.
With the sun beginning its descent, they popped champagne and shared cake at a secluded spot near Glacier Point lookout. This stop on their elopement day adventure gave them the chance to pause, celebrate, and soak in the grandeur of the Yosemite valley before hiking to Taft point for sunset.
A Glowy Golden Hour Hike to Taft Point for Sunset
After celebrating at Glacier Point, Morgyn & Justin hiked the mile long trail to Taft Point as golden hour began to bathe the forest in a warm glow. The way the sun streamed through the pines felt undeniably spiritual, illuminating the pines and giving the entire hike an ethereal atmosphere. Every step brought a deeper sense of connection & meaning as their adventure elopement came to a colorful end.
Taft Point Vs. Glacier Point for Sunset Photos
If you want to experience an epic golden hour and sunset during your Yosemite Elopement, Taft Point is a must. While Glacier Point and Taft Point both offer stunningly expansive views of the valley below, Taft Point takes the cake for sunset - hands down. The way the golden hour light illuminates the forest is otherwordly, and the lingering pink and purple glow of sunset is unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
However, If Glacier Point’s iconic view of Half Dome is a must-have for you, consider visiting the point at sunrise or mid to late afternoon for the best light!
As the warm sunset light shifted to cooler hues, we stayed for heartfelt blue hour portraits on the cliffs. This time of day, just after the sun disappears beyond the horizon, is one of the most underrated times for intimate and emotional portraits.
I love an elopement day that concludes with blue hour moments. It has that “happy tired” feeling, after a day filled with adventure and unforgettable moments, blue hour with your lover just feels like home.
Late-Night Dive Bar Vibes at the Oak Room
After a day full of adventure, jaw-dropping vistas, and intimate vows, Morgyn & Justin capped off their Yosemite elopement with a night out at The Oak Room, a cozy dive bar. When planning the timeline for their day, Morgyn told me about how whenever they travel somewhere new, they always seek out the towny dive bar. “It’s one of the best places to really get to know the people who live there!” So ending their night with fast food, cocktails, and loud storytelling with the locals, felt like the perfect end to their elopement story.
Pro Tip for Couples Thinking About Eloping:
Don’t underestimate the magic of finishing your elopement day with a casual, vibey celebration that feels authentic to you. Whether it’s a favorite local bar, a backyard bonfire, or a hotel room dance party, these moments complete your story and create memories beyond the picture-perfect photo opps.
